Reconciliation
CIC Australia, along with some of Australia’s largest corporate entities, was among the first companies to join Reconciliation Australia’s program of action. The aim of our Reconciliation Action Plan is to recognise, respect and celebrate the relationship of traditional owners to the land in localities where CIC is active.
For example, in Darwin, our wholly owned subsidiary and partner with DHA in the Lyons Joint Venture facilitated a significant number of employment opportunities for local Larrakia people during the development of the suburb of Lyons. In September 2005 LDC entered into a Heads of Agreement with Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Pty Ltd, Larrakia Development Corporation Pty Ltd and the Northern Land Council. The agreement delivered our commitment to the recognition of the Larrakia cultural heritage within the public places in Lyons as well as to the employment and training of Larrakia people.
In a separate initiative, the Lyons Joint Venture also committed $50,000 over five years to support the Smith Family’s Indigenous Mentoring Program, designed to support students during their transition from school to work or further study.
In other localities where CIC Australia is active we have worked and continue to work with the local traditional owners in the delivery of cultural recognition via public art, street naming and the like and the provision of employment opportunities during site works.
CIC Australia also employs an indigenous cadet, providing hands on professional work experience during tertiary training as well as support during university via a program facilitated by Reconciliation Australia.
