Affordable Housing

Underpinning our approach is the sincere desire to be innovative in design and building techniques and to achieve economies of scale in the projects we undertake. The result is high quality, functional and flexible housing options at prices that meet the affordability criteria. Our City Edge project in Canberra, a joint venture with Community Housing Canberra, pioneered the principle that housing can be affordable, sustainable and well-designed.

In Adelaide, we are working with South Australia’s Land Management Corporation on the Lightsview community, which is showcasing affordable attached homes designed by local architects and builders.  The Lightsview homes are marketed through the South Australian Government’s Property Locator database, which means potential purchasers have already been pre-qualified to meet the Government’s criteria.

In 2010, at the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s state awards, Lightsview was named South Australia’s best affordable development. The project went on to win the national award in this hotly contested category. Judges at the national awards praised Lightsview’s generous provision of affordable housing, exceeding requirements set in the tender process, and were impressed by the integration of affordable product with homes in higher price brackets.

In the Canberra suburb of Crace, CIC’s affordable housing alternatives are funky, architect-designed terrace homes, ranging from one bedroom separately titled terraces and studio apartments to three and four bedroom terraces. Also in Canberra, at Forde, free-standing architect designed home and land packages are being brought to the market in conjunction with Delfin Lend Lease at affordable prices.

With increasing housing densities, we believe developers have an obligation to accompany higher density living with well located high quality public open spaces, safe and convenient pedestrian and cycle movement opportunities and convenient access to public transport.  Where possible, we also provide local convenience retail, community and educational facilities.
