Sunday, SA

The name Sunday at Aldinga Beach reflects the lifestyle opportunities and local theme of this community, located in a popular beachside suburb south of Adelaide.

The 719 lot project, commenced in 2004, has been designed using new urbanism principles, with strong emphasis on pedestrian connectivity, accessibility, energy efficiency and convenient access to public transport. CIC has applied site-specific guidelines on housing form and location, materials selection, landscaping and water and energy efficiency.

At key locations within the development, CIC has developed designs for rear-loaded terrace housing and small lot housing, as a demonstration of contemporary and different housing types for the region. This also provides a choice of more affordable housing for various market sectors.

As an integral part of Sunday, CIC is providing a purpose-designed rainwater tank plumbed to the toilet in each home. Other environmental measures include the mandating of solar hot water with a developer rebate upon compliance, and landscape guidelines mandating the use of species compatible with the adjoining sensitive Aldinga Scrub. CIC is also landscaping the front garden of every home, including installing a 3m wide driveway, to create a standard of amenity not often present in new communities.

The location of Sunday within a fast-growing seaside community and adjacent to the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park involved extensive consultation within the local community. Throughout the approval process, CIC also enjoyed a positive working relationship with the Council of the City of Onkaparinga and the South Australian Government.
